The AFLG´s German national team made a promissing effort on Saturday, playing agains an all Australian AFLG AllStars squad. Apart from the second quarter, when several unnecessary mistakes resulted in five un-answered goals for the AllStars the German AFLG selection showed their improvement.

AFLG - Grand Final Day - 07.2004
 
         
 

The Frankfurt Redbacks convincingly won the 2004 Australian Football League Germany Grand Final. After they defeated the Düsseldorf Lions in the Preliminary Final (5 goals,7 behinds, 37 points to 1 goal,4 behinds, 10 points), the Frankfurt Redbacks secured a position in the Grand Final game against the Munich Kangaroos.

The Australian Ambassador to Germany, Ms. Pamela Fayle started the game with the coin toss.

Although the Frankfurt Redbacks already had played one game, they won each quarter against Munich with the end score of (7 goals,9 behinds, 51 points to 3 goals,7 behinds, 25 points).

The Grand Final Trophey "The OWE" was presented by its creater, Australian Artist Andreas Tesch, during the evening ceremony.

Julian Kann from Munich won the prize for "most goals" during the 2004 AFLG season. Steve Powell from the Berlin Crocodiles and Craig Robertson were joint winners of the Brownlow Medal for the 2004 AFLG season. The Man of the Match for the Grand Final was Nils Warnecker from Frankfurt.

In the other game of the day, the match for the wooden spoon, the Berlin Crocodiles defeated the Hamburg Dockers (7 goals,7 behinds, 49 points to 3 goal,4 behinds, 22 points) letting the Dockers take home the wooden spoon for 2004.

We now have confirmation that the popular Danish Sheep Station Cup will be held in Aalborg, Jutland (Denmark) on the 25-26 of September. Download the infoflyer here (PDF 90kb)
