Sheep Station Cup - Dänemark - 26/27.07.2003 |
 |
|
|
| |
|
|
|
|
| |
Am 26. und
27. Juli wird in Kopenhagen (Dänemark) der Sheep Station Cup
ausgetragen. Die strengen Reglementierungen, die
die Zahl der Australier auf dem Spielfeld betraf werden
voraussichtlich aufgehoben. Im letzten
Jahr wurden die Berlin Crocodiles fünfte von
sieben. 2003 werden sie versuchen ihren Platz zu verbessern.
The German players were: Johannus, Nils,
Cam, Chris, Paul, Steve, Rooster, Frank, Greg, Michael
and Simon.

Germany
win 3rd place
On the 26th/27th of July, a German team participated
in the Sheepstation Cup in Copenhagen, Denmark. The players
formed a mixed German/Australian team and had a challenging
7 games over 2 days. On day 1 the first two games were
against the overall winners of the competition Jutland/Tigers
who had entered two teams. Depsite an unexpected hard
first game, Germany still were challanging and were able
to minimise score deficits even with two losses. Germany
won the next game against the Barras by a comfortable
margin of 18 points and in the final game against Malmo,
Germany suffered a loss with only a few points difference.
This saw Germany in place 7 from 10 after day one with
a percentage of about 55%. On day two, Germany defeated
the Copenhagen Crocodiles and then suffered a loss to
Aalborg by only a few points. This left Germany equal
with Copenhagen in points, but below them on percentage.
In a surprise move, Copenhagen forfeited and Germany
now had a chance for 3rd position, against Aalborg who
had defeated Germany on the same day. In an extremly
exciting game for 3rd/4th, the German team showed true
spirit an captured a win with 5 points lead and giving
the Germans a 3rd place at the Sheep Station Cup including
prize money of 1000 Krones.

In
the final AFLG game of 2003, the Berlin won the away
game against Hamburg. In the 9 against 9 (then 10 against
10 then 9 against 8) game, the skills of the Berlin
team were stronger though the Hamburgers had a number
of good goals. Ex Carlton AFL player 'Wow' Jones joined
the Hamburg team as full forward and helped out as
referee.
The win puts Berlin as second overall
in the 2003 AFLG season after Munich. Frankfurt were
placed third and Hamburg fourth. |

Rhein
Cup - 30.08.2003 |
 |
|
|
| |
|
|
|
|
| |
The second
Rhein Cup was a little different that expected. 25
players from around Germany arrived ready for the knock-out
competition and it was decided to play 1 game instead,
Australians against Germans. |
|
Both teams were
evenly matched up to the end of the thrid quarter where
the Australians took the lead
beating the Germany 122 to 76. The Madrid Bears did not
attend as planned. |

Berlin
Cup - Postponed |
 |
|
|
| |
|
|
|
|
| |
The Berlin Cup was an initiative to allow the
football starved European nations a chance for 'another
game'. Due to an excellent footy season with regular
AFLG matches and a number of tournaments and pres-season
games, the Berlin Cup has been postponed, probably
until next year.

Oktoberfest
Cup in München
|
|
The Berliners sent less than
a handful of players down to the Octoberfest Cup as details
regarding accomodationm, times and location remained
hazy up to the end. In the end an Australian team played
a mixed team (including the Berlin players), 12 on 12
and then the important part... beer. |
